Columbine Standout Switching to Play QB

By Ray Powell

For those with a desire to be a team leader, it’s hard to pass up an opportunity to be a signal caller on the football field.

"I have dreamed about being the quarterback and running the Columbine offense since I was a kid," Danny
Spond the 6'2”, 210 pound athlete said in a recent interview with CFI.

Spond a junior to be and one of the top recruits for the class of 2010 will get a chance to fulfill his
dream this fall when he is expected to be the QB in Columbine's ground and pound offense.

Spond is making the move to quarterback from linebacker, where he earned first team all South Metro league honors as a sophomore.

"I'm hoping I can play some safety on defense too," Spond said, "I played some safety in little league and
loved it there and that's a position I could play in college."

Spond, who just returned from the Under Armour/Scout Combine in Phoenix was one of only four juniors to be invited to the Combine, did not disappoint.

"He was as good as any QB there," said Jeff Stroud a regional recruiting analyst for Scout.com.
"He throws a nice ball," Stroud added.

Spond also showed well in the the field drills running a 4.6 40 yard
dash, "and showed good hips and feet in the shuttle and cone drills" Stroud said.

Spond and his teammates will head to Wyoming for a team camp on June 4 and will be trying to best there
record of 11-1 last year.

"Our Seniors were Jeffco champs as freshmen and our JV was league champs last year, so if we mesh as a team we have the ability to go a long way." Spond said

Despite receiving so much attention at such an early stage in his recruitment, Spond has stayed humble
through the process.

"You can always continue to get better in everything you do," Spond said. "I have a lot that I still need
to work on, and I'm just trying to get better and better as I go along."

Indeed spoken like a true leader.
