CLASS OF 2010 PLAYER TO WATCH: DWAYNE PECOSKY

By Ray Powell

Losing the likes of Bryce Given's to the University of Colorado and Alec Johnson and Jimmy Miller (who now play at San Diego State) one might think the Mullen football team could struggle along the front line this upcoming season.

But with returning starter Dwayne Pecosky coming back for his junior year the 6'2”, 275 pound offensive guard there might not be as big of drop off in efficiency.

Pecosky puts up huge weight room numbers for a high school junior. He has a bench press of 335 pounds 5 times and a 5 rep max on squats of 445 pounds.

"I was also clocked at 4.99 at the national underclassmen combine in Fort Collins last week," Pecosky said in a recent interview with CFI.

Although still a young man and part of the 2010, Pecosky has already been getting some interest.

"I have been getting mail from Idaho, Boise State, CSU and Montana State so far," he said.

Pecosky and his Mullen HS teammates hope to continue their winning ways of past years but the main goal will be to get back to the championship.

"I definitely want to get to the State Championship, but this time actually winning it. I haven't really thought about individual goals yet, I'm more concerned with making it back to the Championship game."

Not only is Pecosky a very hard worker, but he also feels that there are other aspects of his game that will eventually land him scholarship offers.

"Definitely my quickness off the ball," said Pecosky, "my agility and my footwork are also strengths of mine, including pass blocking. Heading into next year, I'd like to work on my run blocking skills. I can improve on my power and continue to get faster and stronger.”

By 2010 who knows how great this young man could be. For now, Mullen appears to be just fine.
